Video of the Day – Edward Snowden’s Recent Interview with German Television

Many people have lamented the fact that the U.S. mainstream propaganda media has barely covered this excellent interview of Edward Snowden conducted recently by German television. Some have gone so far as to call it intentional censorship. Either way, I’m more than happy to bring it to you. There’s a lot of really good stuff in here. Thank you once again Edward Snowden, hero and patriot.

Enjoy.

Meet the U.S. Allies – Saudi Arabia Passes Draconian, Medieval Laws to Crush Dissent

One of the most significant geopolitical events of 2013 was the failed push for war in Syria by the Obama Administration. It didn’t merely fail as a result of a war weary public (although that played a key role), it also failed due to the fact our clownish “leaders” were attempting to offer military support to rebels with a large al-Qaeda element. So the pathetic “sell” by the U.S. establishment was to push the nation into a conflict allied with the very terrorist group against which we are fighting the “war on terror,” and have given up so many of our civil liberties to wage. Ridiculous, yet they tried anyway. That is how stupid they think the public is.

What that failed attempt at war mongering demonstrated to anyone paying attention is that our foreign policy is a complete joke and total sham. We publicly claim to support “democracy” and “freedom” around the world, yet in reality support some of the most oppressive regimes out there.

No relationship highlights this hypocrisy as clearly as our extremely close alliance with the Saudi regime, one of the last “absolute monarchies” on the planet. Not only that, but increasing evidence points to its direct involvement in the 9/11 attacks. But it gets worse. A lot worse. The regime has just passed a series of Medieval laws to crack down on all dissent. In a nutshell: Dissent = Terrorism.

From the New York Times:

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Saudi Arabia put into effect a sweeping new counterterrorism law Sunday that human rights activists say allows the kingdom to prosecute as a terrorist anyone who demands reform, exposes corruption or otherwise engages in dissent.

The law states that any act that “undermines” the state or society, including calls for regime change in Saudi Arabia, can be tried as an act of terrorism. It also grants security services broad powers to raid homes and track phone calls and Internet activity.

Saudi Arabia is one of the world’s last absolute monarchies. All decisions are centered in the hands of 89-year-old King Abdullah. There is no parliament. There is little written law, and judges — implementing the country’s strict Wahhabi interpretation of Islam — have broad leeway to impose verdicts and sentences.

Mandatory “Vehicle to Vehicle” Communications Coming to U.S. Cars

The vision of ‘talking’ cars that avoid crashes is well on the way to becoming a reality. And we’re not just talking about cars talking to cars, but about cars talking to bikes, trucks talking to motorcycles, and even buses talking to pedestrians. This promises to significantly reduce the number of deaths and injuries on our nation’s roads while unleashing a new wave of innovation from advanced traffic management systems and smart mobility apps to real-time traffic, transit and parking information.

– Scott Belcher, President and CEO of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America

Worried about “pre-crime?” What about “pre-crash?”

The geniuses at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTS) are so concerned about your “safety,” they have decided to take it into their own hands and make it mandatory that your car wirelessly communicate with other vehicles on the road. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx went so far as to say the technology could save “thousands of lives and even prevent accidents in the first place.” The concept of “pre-crash” has been born.

As in so many other aspects of life, there is a top down push to remove all control from the individual to the collective (recall the MSNBC host who proclaimed children don’t belong to their parents), typically justified within the content of the “war on terror,” and always justified with “it’s for your own good.” Apparently, we aren’t capable of making our own choices in anything any more, including something as simple as driving a car.

This push to exert control within individual vehicles is nothing new and appears to be a global phenomenon.  For instance, just last week I posted an article titled: The EU May Mandate a “Remote Stopping Device” in All Cars for Police Use.

Now we learn from The Detroit News that:

Washington— The U.S. Transportation Department said Monday it plans to propose requiring all new cars and trucks to eventually communicate with one another, which could one day help reduce up to 80 percent of crash deaths.

But under the tentative timetable laid out, automakers aren’t likely to be required to install the in-vehicle communication devices until around 2020 — and even then, the devices will be phased in.

Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will begin working on a proposal to require vehicle-to-vehicle communication in future cars and trucks. He said he hopes to propose the regulation by the time the Obama administration leaves office in January 2017. NHTSA gives automakers at least 18 months of lead time before mandating new technology.

Foxx said at a news conference the technology could save “thousands of lives and even prevent accidents in the first place.”

Acting NHTSA chief David Friedman said the technology is a “game changer” and “nothing short of revolutionary.”

Um, sorry but if this is such a “gamer changer” and “revolutionary” why not just put it out there and see if the market adopts it. If it is as wonderful as Mr. Friedman claims, why does it need to be mandatory. No one made Bitcoin mandatory, yet it is being adopted because it genuinely is revolutionary. This guy’s statement is completely idiotic.

But major challenges need to be addressed: including ensuring that the devices would be secure — to prevent hackers couldn’t take control of the signals.

Hahaha, ok good luck with that. Just ask Target for some tips.

NHTSA also expects to decide soon whether to require future cars to have active collision avoidance systems — like automatic braking that halts a vehicle about to strike a stopped vehicle in front of it. Those systems are currently on many luxury cars.

Yeah, what could go wrong…

Inaugural Interview with “The News Doctors” – Bitcoin, Freedom and Decentralization

Last Friday, I had the opportunity to sit down with Eric Dubin, editor of The News Doctors, an alternative news site, and host of Liberty Rising Radio. This was a lengthy interview and we cover a lot of very important bases. Eric asked many key questions on the minds of Bitcoin skeptics, so I think this particular interview will be especially useful for those out there who still haven’t come around to supporting it. One thing that I really want to hammer home to goldbugs is that we should not be cheering or encouraging a Chinese backed monetary system. Rather, we should aim to separate the state from money.

Enjoy.

You Can Now Book a Hotel Room with Bitcoin at Over 200,000 Properties

Cheapair.com has been leading the way as far as providing consumers with the ability to book travel services with Bitcoin. I first highlighted the company back in November of last year when they announced airfare purchases for BTC.

Well it turns out they had such success with that rollout that they are going to offer hotel booking with Bitcoin at over 200,000 hotels in their worldwide network. As I have said before, if done properly, there is only upside to retailers accepting BTC. The adoption continues…

From USA Today:

It may soon become easier for travelers to book entire vacations using Bitcoin, the digital currency.

Online travel agency CheapAir.com has started accepting Bitcoins to make reservations at the more than 200,000 hotels in its worldwide network.

In November, the website began taking Bitcoins for flight purchases, and CEO Jeff Klee said the website gained new customers after that.

“We’ve been really pleasantly surprised by the response,” he says. “We’re making a lot more Bitcoin sales than we expected to make.”

Boom!

Brooklyn Man Interrupts SuperBowl Post Game Press Conference with “Investigate 9/11″ Comment

I have always maintained I have no idea what exactly happened on 9/11, but that the official story is the biggest bunch of bullshit I have ever heard. As time passes more and more people are coming to the same conclusion, and more and more disturbing facts are coming forward. Personally, it appears all roads lead to the Saudis and I would also assume certain factions within the “power elite” were also involved behind the scenes.

This video clip is simply incredible.

Consumers are Switching to Cash in the Wake of Recent Credit Card Data Breaches

“We aren’t releasing that data,” said a Visa spokeswoman in response to a query about whether the company had noticed a recent dip in card use. A MasterCard spokesman declined to comment.

– From yesterday’s New York Times article: Newly Wary, Shoppers Trust Cash

A very interesting article was published yesterday by the New York Times. It highlighted the fact that according to an Associated Press poll, 37% of Americans “had made an effort to use cash instead of credit or debit cards to pay for purchases as a result of the recent data thefts.” While I certainly agree with the assessment that people will likely only switch to cash temporarily and move back to plastic as soon as their low attention span minds allow, doubt regarding credit cards has been firmly planted in people’s minds. The more breaches we see in the future, the more people will look for alternatives.

Fortunately, we already have Bitcoin, and the more people learn about it, the more people will continue to adopt it. While the criticisms remain with people saying “but where can you spend them,” this is becoming an increasingly false critique. You can now buy airfare with Bitcoin, all the items on Overstock.com as well as also precious metals. In fact, the precious metals part has me particularly excited, and Amagi Metals is a local company that has led the way in BTC payments for PMs. They are also running a series of specials on silver all of February which you should definitely check out.

Now from the New York Times:

Like dieters vowing to trade cupcakes for carrots, a number of American shoppers are making a new pledge: cash only.

The drumbeat of disclosures about credit and debit card breaches at major retailers (and hints of more to come) has unnerved consumers to the point where chatter online and at the water cooler is filled with people promising to curb their plastic habits.

“This is CRAZY. First my Target card, now this,” wrote Lorraine McCullough on the Michaels Stores Facebook page last week after the arts and crafts chain said that it was investigating whether customer data had been exposed. “I am going to pay cash from now on.”

A poll released last week by The Associated Press and GfK Public Affairs & Corporate Communications found that 37 percent of Americans had made an effort to use cash instead of credit or debit cards to pay for purchases as a result of the recent data thefts — almost as many as those who checked personal credit reports because of the thefts. (Just 29 percent said they had changed passwords or requested new cards.)

Video of the Day: “Don’t Worry Be Happy” – Conan O’Brien Mocks Mainstream Media Idiocy

Under a dictatorship the Big Business, made possible by advancing technology and the consequent ruin of Little Business, is controlled by the State-that is to say, by a small group of party leaders and the soldiers, policemen and civil servants who carry out their orders. In a capitalist democracy such as the United States, it is controlled by what Professor C. Wright Mills has called the Power Elite. This Power Elite directly employs several millions of the country’s working force in its factories, offices and stores, controls many millions more by lending them the money to but its products, and, through its ownership of the media of mass communications, influences the thoughts, the feelings and the actions of virtually everybody.

– Aldous Huxley, Brave New World Revisited 1958

We all know mainstream media is a joke, but sometimes its inherent idiocy can be best highlighted with a little humor. So thank you very much Conan O’Brien.

Don’t worry serfs, be happy.

UK Think Tank Proposes Law to Restrict Foreign Oligarch Real Estate Speculation

When people ask how there can be no inflation with Central Banks printing so much money, all one has to do is look at what I refer to as “oligarch assets” and you’ll see massive inflation. The reason for this is that the only people getting access to the newly created money at 0% interest or through crony deals are oligarchs and well connected figures within the global plutocracy. While there is also plenty of inflation for consumer goods (often times hidden in smaller package sizes and phony components), it is nothing like the tremendous price gains in assets oligarchs covet.

As most of my readers know by now, one such asset is high-end London real estate. In fact, oligarchs and cronies are scooping up London real estate at such a frantic pace that the regular peasants are being forced out of their own city. Even worse, many of these “investment properties” sit unfurnished and empty, merely another trophy home to top off the oligarch portfolio.

I’ve covered this oligarch buying trend on several occasions in the past (it’s also happening in the U.S.), and I believe it is only a matter of time before the public because angry enough to put a stop to it. We may be witnessing the start of such a trend at this time with the publication of the report Finding Shelter by think tank Civitas. While this is just a proposal and far from law, I do expect such laws ultimately to be passed globally in various jurisdictions in which the oligarchs are distorting prices and making every day life unaffordable and miserable.

Some key points from the report are:

  • 85% of prime London property purchases in 2012 were made with overseas money.
  • Problem is not confined to the top end of the market. Over the past two years only 27% of new homes in central London went to UK buyers, while more than half were sold to residents of Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia and Russia.
  • Two-thirds of homes bought by people from overseas were not purchased for owner-occupation but as investments.

From the Guardian:

Radical plans to stop rich overseas residents who live outside the EU buying British houses – as well as tight restrictions on them acquiring “newbuild” properties as investments – will be published in a report by a leading rightwing thinktank on Monday.

Free-market organisation Civitas castigates government ministers for allowing wealthy foreign investors to stoke a property boom that it says is driving up prices and locking millions of UK citizens out of the housing market.

The plans would prevent the likes of Roman Abramovich, owner of Chelsea football club, or other Russian oligarchs from adding to their multimillion-pound UK portfolios. They also aim to stem a flood of investment from countries such as China, Malaysia and Singapore.

Concerned that many middle and lower earners are being forced to pay high rents in London because they can’t afford to buy, Civitas calls on ministers to adopt a scheme similar to one operating in Australia, which ensures that no sale can take place to overseas buyers unless they can show that their investment will add to existing housing stock.

Such a system would mean that no existing home could be sold to a buyer from outside the EU, and that such buyers could acquire newbuild homes only if their investment led to one or more additional properties being built.

Blast from the Past – Adam Kokesh Interviews Charlie Shrem (October 2012)

Last week, I wrote an article expressing my disgust at the selective prosecution of BitInstant CEO Charlie Shrem. The piece was titled, Some Money Launderers are More Equal than Others Part 2 – CEO of BitInstant is Arrested. The aggressiveness of the prosecution and the arrest itself reminded me of what has been done to countless others such as Aaron Swartz and Barrett Brown, to name a few.

Since then, many others have also written about the disturbing nature of this arrest, the best of which in my opinion came from Falkvinge, founder of the Pirate Party, and someone who I have highlighted in the past. He recently wrote an article titled: Harassment Arrest of Charlie Shrem Shows Dangerously Repressive U.S. Police System. What is so interesting about this piece, is how he describes what Shrem did is in no way shape or form “money laundering” under any reasonable definition. He writes:

Charlie Shrem has been arrested at JFK airport and charged with money laundering. …accused of selling over $1 million in bitcoins to Silk Road users, who would then use them to buy drugs and other illicit items.

So what?

That’s not money laundering. That’s the exact opposite of money laundering. Money laundering is a well-defined concept; it’s when you take money that has been achieved through illegal means and give them a legitimate source, concealing the past of that particular piece of wealth.

What allegedly happened here was that Shrem sold one million USD worth of bitcoin to one or more individuals, and these means were later used in turn to purchase contraband from Silk Road, obviously without Shrem having any say about it. That’s neither criminal nor money laundering – when you sell an asset, whether a car, a house, or bitcoin, you’re not liable in the slightest if that asset is later exchanged for contraband by its new rightful owner. Nor are you in any way, shape or form required to act even if you know it’s been later exchanged for contraband by its new owner, and in particular, you’re not guilty of money laundering.

Money laundering is specifically when you take actions to turn black money into white, and not when you sell white money to somebody else and they turn it black without your consent. There’s so much wrong with this bullshit arrest on every conceivable level.

Indeed, this seems to be the case. That said, I think the government’s argument is that Shrem was intentionally selling the bitcoin to this person knowing they he wanted to buy drugs with it, and that person felt gaining the BTC from Shrem would make his coins more anonymous.

Again, so what? Who did Shrem actually harm here? Who was victimized? Furthermore, let’s say what he did could be considered “money laundering.” It was one million dollars; ONE MILLION. I mean HSBC interns launder that amount in their sleep.

With all that off my chest, let’s finally get to the video. The following interview of Shrem by Adam Kokesh (a former Iraq vet turned activist who recently spent time in jail himself) from back in October 2012 is a really great watch. To hear these two highly intelligent and passionate patriots discuss the concept and potential of Bitcoin when it was a mere $11 per BTC is really entreating. In particular, I was impressed by Adam’s ability to so quickly grasp just what Bitcoin is and what it could be at such an early stage.

Enjoy this conversation with these two “felons.”

Michael Krieger
