FFUMC’s ‘Sage’ group plans first two outings for the new year

The “Sage” group (Senior Adults Going Everywhere) at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church have two outings in the works.

On Thursday, Jan. 16, the group will travel to the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta for some refresher courses in Georgia history and a tour through the museum. The capitol was built from 1884 to 1889.

Lunch at Six Feet Under (pay your own tab) will complete the day.

The cost is $5 for transportation plus lunch. The group will depart the church at 9:45 a.m. and return at 3 p.m. Reservations are needed in the church office by Monday, Jan. 13.

Gifts for Emmaus House

Last month, members of the St. Andrew’s Youth Group and Outreach Committee wrapped gifts for Emmaus House. More than 100 gifts were donated by the St. Andrew’s congregation. Emmaus House is supported by the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta assisting children and families in need.

GriefShare starts at PTCUMC Jan. 9

Beginning Jan. 9, Peachtree City United Methodist Church will offer GriefShare each Thursday night from 6:30 – 8 p.m.

GriefShare is a Christ-centered, biblically based support group for anyone who has lost a loved one. It is open to anyone in the community and surrounding area who is grieving the loss of a spouse, child, parent, sibling or friend.

GriefShare is led by facilitators who understand the grief process and want to help. All facilitators have experienced the loss of a loved one and can identify with the emotions that result from the grief process.

Fayette Presbyterian will offer special GriefShare session Jan. 5

Surviving the Holidays is a special one-session program produced by GriefShare, a Christ-centered grief support group program. It will be held on Jan. 5 at Fayette Presbyterian Church and is open to all the community.

For many, in past years the holiday season has been a time of great anticipation and excitement. However, this year the prospect of having faced the holidays without a loved one may have caused anxiety and great sadness.

Dogwood to offer GriefShare

Dogwood Church, 975 Ga. Hwy. 74 South in Tyrone, will offer a GriefShare support group held from 7- 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings beginning Jan. 8.

The group will meet in the atrium area of the church office.

“GriefShare is a 13-week program led by friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences,” a spokesperson said. “You don’t have to go through the grieving process alone.”

GriefShare begins at HTCC

Holy Trinity Catholic Church will offer GriefShare, a 13-week Christian video/discussion support group for those who are coping with the death of a loved one, either recently or from years past. Sessions will start on Jan. 8 and 10. The church offers an evening program on Wednesdays from 7-9 p.m. or a morning program on Fridays from 9:30-11:30 a.m in Room #103 in the Faith Formation building. Piedmont Fayette Hospital offers graduate pastoral care courses

Piedmont Fayette Hospital offers graduate level pastoral care training known as clinical pastoral education (CPE) for community members and clergy interested in learning more about spiritual care.

As part of the program, students of all faiths minister to people in intimate and sometimes critical situations while being supervised. Over the course of five months, the CPE students will engage with patients in a variety of settings including hospitals, prisons and hospice facilities.

The CPE program is offered twice a year at both Piedmont Fayette Hospital and Piedmont Henry Hospital.

Senoia pitches in to help local man in need

Senoia for all its growth is still a small city. One of its residents who has long-frequented David and Suzanne Pengelly’s Senoia Coffee & Cafe was found recently to be in need and a number of residents and businesses have responded to those needs.

Like others in communities across the land, Lonnie is a man who has always been self-sufficient, one who provides for himself. And like others, there are times when conditions in life change and a helping hand is needed.
