Dogwood’s GriefShare seminar starts tonight

Dogwood Church in Tyrone will offer GriefShare – Surviving the Holidays, a seminar, Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 7-9 p.m.

The group will meet in the Atrium area of the church office.

The video presentation offers suggestions on how to handle hard-hitting emotions during the holiday season, what to do about family traditions, how to scale back on activities and holiday preparations, and where to find the strength to go on.

“I learned that it’s okay not to carry on every tradition, and it’s okay to cut back on invitations,” shared a seminar attendee.

The President’s ‘fix’ for Obamacare

The White House’s urgent retreat came at the same time the French took a bold stand in Geneva, thereby rescuing the U.S. Secretary of State from himself as he tried to give away the store to the Iranians. I haven’t seen such role reversal since masculinity became passe.

To understand the Obamacare train wreck and retreat, you need to ask yourself how much political intrigue you like mixed in with your healthcare?

The visioning initiative: What’s in Fayette County?

By Matt Forshee and Virginia Gibbs

If you were hosting visitors to our county on a comprehensive, seven-hour driving tour across Fayette County, where would you go and what would you see? What successes, challenges and opportunities would you point out?

That’s exactly what we were challenged to do last week, providing a familiarization tour of Fayette County to two of our community visioning partners at Market Street Services.

A Constitutional convention?

Fed up with Washington? Angry that elections don’t seem to matter when it comes time to solving problems? Disgusted by the polarization that puts politicians’ careers ahead of taxpayer interests? Frustrated because you don’t think anything can be done about it?

Indiana State Senator David Long (R-Ft. Wayne) has experienced all of these feelings, but has chosen not to accept the status quo. He has a plan for returning power to the people where the Founders wanted it to reside.

Keeping the dream alive

By chance, we happened upon him in a small gift shop. The clerk recognized me, laughed and said, “What a coincidence! She just bought a copy of your book!” She gestured toward a small woman browsing through a group of men’s sweaters.

That began a cordial conversation when I thanked her for buying the book. Her son, somewhere in his 30s, perked up and listened. He settled himself down on a comfortable sofa and said not a word until his mother said, “My son is a writer, too.”
