Film & Digital Media Industry Open House moves to Sandy Creek H.S. this Sat.

A parking shortage at Fayetteville’s Lafayette Education Center has forced the Clayton State University Division of Continuing Education to move its upcoming Film and Digital Media Industry Open House to Sandy Creek High School, 360 Jenkins Rd., Tyrone.

The Open House will still be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. The exact location at Sandy Creek High School will be in the school auditorium, which is located inside the main front entrance.

Early voting starts in PTC, Tyrone

Early and absentee voting for the elections in Peachtree City and Tyrone starts Monday at each municipality’s respective library.

Registered voters will be able to cast ballots Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at both library facilities through Friday, Nov. 1. Those seeking a larger window of time can wait until election day itself on Nov. 5 when their individual precinct will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

A packed house of Senoia voters Thursday heard from the three candidates vying for the mayor’s seat to be decided in the Nov. 5 election. Councilman Larry Owens, Senoia Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Chair Suzanne Helfman and retired Col. Don Rehman responded to questions in the forum hosted by the Senoia Forums Group and sponsored by the Senoia Area Business Association.

Poplar Rd./I-85 interchange gets feds' environmental approval

Another milestone in the saga of the coming full-diamond interchange at Interstate 85 and Poplar Road took shape Tuesday night when Coweta County commissioners were told the project is ahead of schedule.

“We reached a milestone,” Coweta County Director of Transportation and Engineering Tod Handley told commissioners. “The draft environmental document has been approved by the federal Dept. of Transportation.”

SCHS Marching Band shines at competition

Sandy Creek High School’s Marching Patriots took home multiple awards from the 9th Annual Yellow Jacket Classic Marching Contest held Saturday, Oct. 12, in Rockmart.

Sixteen high school bands, including Fayette County’s Sandy Creek High and McIntosh High, competed in the contest held at Rockmart High School.

The Sandy Creek Marching Patriots were awarded second place in the Class AAA marching band division.

Sandy Creek’s drum major, T. Michael Boddie, received a “superior” rating and was awarded first place among Class AAA drum majors.

Senoia vet joins protest over treatment of fellow veterans

For Senoia resident Marshall Huckaby it was a matter of taking a stand. The Vietnam veteran joined countless other veterans in Washington, D.C. Oct. 8 to express their outrage and shame over the treatment received by the families of fallen soldiers at Dover Air Force Base during the recent government shutdown.
