FAACE art show coming up

FAACE members are shown at a planning meeting for their upcoming Art With Heart Show on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The reception is Friday, Feb. 7, from 6-9 p.m. Both events are at St. Andrew’s in the Pines Episcopal Church in Peachtree City. The public is invited. A silent auction will benefit the Children’s Village at Christian City. The FAACE show (Fine Arts and Crafts Entrepreneurs) includes over 30 participating vendors. PTCUMM taking orders for pinestraw and fertilizer sale

The United Methodist Men at Peachtree City United Methodist Church are now taking orders for their 35th Annual Fertilizer and Pine Straw Sale.

The UMM Breakfast Sales Kick-off will be Saturday, Feb. 1 at 8 a.m. at the Windgate Campus. Delivery dates will be the first two Saturdays in March. Products are priced comparably to big box retailers in the area and the men deliver to individual yards free of charge.

Coweta cancels classes, activities for students Tuesday; staff will report to work

Coweta County school officials at 9 p.m. Monday announced that schools will be closed for students on Tuesday. Staff should report as normal.

School system spokesman Dean Jackson said schools will be closed on Tuesday due to warnings of severe winter weather conditions moving into the Coweta County area during the day. All student extracurricular activities scheduled for Tuesday have been cancelled as well, Jackson said.

The school system will continue to monitor weather and driving conditions in our county for Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Fayette schools monitoring winter storm, cancel extra-curricular activities Tuesday

The Fayette County School System is monitoring what is now forecast as a winter storm warning expected to hit sometime Tuesday. While conditions might change, the school system at 3 p.m. announced that extra-curricular activities planned for Tuesday evening have been cancelled.

Court proposes new map for district voting

Commission to meet tomorrow and discuss response to map; court hearing set Feb. 18

A new district map to implement Fayette County’s new district voting format has been proposed by U.S. District Judge Timothy C. Batten.

The Fayette County Commission will meet in a special called meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) at 4 p.m. to discuss the map in executive session and consider its legal response, as Batten is inviting input on the proposal.

Coweta rezoning makes away for new restaurant, stores

A rezoning that will bring a national chain restaurant and other retail businesses to the commercial center on Andrew Bailey Road off Ga. Highway 34 was approved unanimously Thursday by the Coweta County Commission.

The rezoning of the 2.38-acre site located at 15 Thomas Grace Annex Lane off Andrew Bailey Road east of Thomas Crossroads had been zoned C-4 (Commercial Service District). The approval changes the zoning to C-3 (Commercial Retail District).

Tyrone mayor: crime down, economy up

It was a look behind and a look ahead for Tyrone Mayor Eric Dial as he delivered the 2014 State of the Town address at the Jan. 16 meeting of the Tyrone Town Council. Dial suggested that conditions that led to a successful 2013 are in place to make 2014 a time of increased opportunity.

Beginning with the year just ended, Dial said the town government’s pledges during 2013 included the battle to protect Tyrone Elementary School from closure.
