Humorist Cathy Lee Phillips to speak at Fayetteville First UMC

Delivering “humor with a message,” Cathy Lee Phillips will speak at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Titus II, a lunch and learning event.

The entire community is invited to hear Phillips’s stories and parables that reflect how she experiences God in the ordinary events of life.

“Her simple yet poignant message speaks to all ages through a down-home style,” a spokesperson said. “Her heartwarming words deliver a challenge to expect spiritual surprises each day and to recognize God’s presence in life’s moments.”

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran to host Financial Peace University

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City will offer Financial Peace University, a nine-session course which looks at “healthy habits for dealing with financial resources” in a Christian context.

Learn how to maximize money, use a budget, spend and save wisely, and manage debt—using a faith perspective.

The course’s author, Dave Ramsey, has conducted training for thousands of individuals.

Hopewell offers midweek activities

Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone will offer a Wednesday night program for children, youth, and adults beginning Jan. 22. The adults will have Bible study while the children and youth engage in their programs.

The program will run twice a month, on the first and fourth Wednesday, in conjunction with Wednesday Night Suppers. Meals will be served at 5:45 p.m. and the program will run from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. The community is invited to participate in all of these activities.

The church is located at 351 Jenkins Road, across from Sandy Creek High.

Providence, Heritage Christian team up for DivorceCare Jan. 27

Providence United Methodist Church and Heritage Christian Church partner throughout the year to offer DivorceCare classes for adults and young children.

“DivorceCare is led by a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences,” a spokesperson said. “Separation and divorce are hard enough. You do not have to go through it alone.”

The next class meets at Providence on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 27.

Providence UMC to offer Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace Univ.

Providence United Methodist Church will offer Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University Sundays from 5-7 p.m. beginning Feb. 9.

Through this nine-week class, participants learn how to pay off debt, save money and manage their finances better. Couples are encouraged to take this class to make sure they are making a plan together.

The $93 cost includes workbook, audio CDs, cash management system and more. Free childcare is provided.

Sage group plans trip to Legacy Theater for Carter family saga

The “Sage” group (Senior Adults Going Everywhere) at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church has another outing planned for Friday, Feb. 7. The group will have supper at the Downtown Gr ill in Tyrone (pay your own tab), then view “Keep on the Sunny Side,” a show at the Legacy theater about the Carter family whose love story made country music famous.

A.P., Maybelle, and Sara Carter are brought to life in this telling look at the lives and music of the Carter Family. Songs include “Will the Circle be Unbroken,” “Wildwood Flower,” and the perennial favorite, “Keep on the Sunny Side.”

Ebenezer’s cookbook offers recipes from then and now

Ebenezer United Methodist Church’s women’s group is offering its “Savor the Memories” Cookbook for sale to the public. The book is described as “an absolutely beautiful cookbook with our Ebenezer United Methodist Church pictured on the padded hardback cover.”

The book is in a three-ring binder with tabbed dividers for quick reference. The laminated cover can easily be wiped clean.

ESL classes continue in Peachtree City

Free ESL (English as a Second Language) classes for adults meet weekly through May 16, 2014 at Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church, PCA, in Peachtree City.

Students can join at any time. Classes are held on Fridays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
