Senoia for all its growth is still a small city. One of its residents who has long-frequented David and Suzanne Pengelly’s Senoia Coffee & Cafe was found recently to be in need and a number of residents and businesses have responded to those needs.

Like others in communities across the land, Lonnie is a man who has always been self-sufficient, one who provides for himself. And like others, there are times when conditions in life change and a helping hand is needed.

Perhaps one of your New Year’s resolutions is to get more involved. Peachtree City happens to have a few openings for volunteers on several of its volunteer boards and authorities, but you’ll need to act quick, as applications are due by 5 p.m. Jan. 3.

Among the positions up for grabs are one member’s seat and one alternate on the Recreation and Special Events Board, the Peachtree City Airport Authority and the Peachtree City Water and Sewerage Authority.

Northgate High School graduate and U.S. Army Spc. Adrian Mills gave his last full measure of devotion on Sept. 29, 2011 when he was killed in Kirkuk, Iraq. The Coweta County Commission on Dec. 17 named a portion of Fischer Road the Army Spc. Adrian “A.J.” Mills Highway.

Mills graduated from Northgate in 2007 where he had served in the Civil Air Patrol and the Air Force ROTC.

For Welch Elementary School music teacher Melissa King, the inspiration to orchestrate Coweta County’s first Native American powwow came from her love of acknowledging America’s history and the desire to help a Native American girl in need. She pulled the large event it off in record time and gave Coweta County residents in late November a glance of American history.

The annual “Bring One for the Chipper” program will be accepting Christmas trees for recycling on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Three locations will be up and running this year between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Trees can be dropped off at the Peachtree City Recycling Center on Ga. Highway 74 south, behind the Kedron Kroger and in the parking lot of the Peachtree City Home Depot.

Those donating their old Christmas tree will receive a free tree seedling while supplies last. Trees should be free of all lights, tinsel and ornaments.
