Mayor-elect Fleisch looks to ‘new day’ for PTC

With a resounding 72 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s runoff election, Vanessa Fleisch will become Peachtree City’s first woman mayor on Jan. 1.

Fleisch handily beat challenger and former mayor Harold Logsdon, who made it into the runoff with the second-most votes in the field of five candidates to force the runoff.

A jubilant Fleisch was all smiles and hugs with campaign supporters at what turned out to be her victory party Tuesday. That evening, she revealed that she already had made plans to have meetings with city staff members on Wednesday on the chance she might win.

The holiday table

After witnessing the Thanksgiving meal last week, it was suggested that a review of table manners and place settings for the holidays are in order.

Not gonna tell you who suggested the review or what retired firefighter The Wife said needed the review, but I think you can guess correctly.

Santa Claus, USMC

Once again this December, I plan to pull at least one four-hour shift, and hopefully more, sitting or standing behind a table at a big box store on a Saturday or Sunday smiling at people passing by, wishing them, “Merry Christmas,” and offering lollipops free to kids.

I do that because I want them to give new toys or donate some money. I won’t pressure them to give, I won’t use guilt, and the kids get the lollipops free whether their folks give or not.

F’ville brother and sister act to make a difference to homeless

Donations sought of small items for holiday ‘care packages’

Two Fayetteville youngsters are seeking help to provide a better Christmas for homeless people in Atlanta who are served by the longstanding Safehouse Outreach program.

Mattie and William Terek are seeking donations of basic items to make 100 care packages for Safehouse participants to be distributed later this month. It’s a big gesture from Mattie, a third grader and brother William, a first grader, but it’s also a sign of how profoundly they’ve been affected by their experience in helping people at Safehouse.

Pinewood Studios construction continues apace

Work on the Pinewood Atlanta Studios facility on Veterans Parkway continues to transform what was pasture land into Fayetteville and Fayette County’s largest-ever economic development project. The latest improvements to the property are easily evidenced by the view offered from Sandy Creek Road.

The newest additions to the property can be seen from the studio entrance across from the former Rivers Elementary School. Construction is underway on a 20,000 square-foot production office building that is being attached to the soundstage building nearest the studio entrance.
