The Celebration Choir and Orchestra of McDonough Road Baptist Church in Fayetteville will present “It’s Christmas!” Sunday, Dec. 8, at 10:55 a.m. and 6 p.m.

“It’s Christmas!” is the major Christmas musical kicking off the 2013 celebration of Christmas at McDonough Road Baptist.

St. Andrew’s Fair is this Saturday

The ladies of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) at St. Andrew’s-in-the-Pines, Peachtree City will host their 2013 Fine Art & Crafts Christmas Fair, Bazaar and Golden Elephant Sale. Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Parish Hall of the church.

Juried vendors and the ECW will be selling a variety of goods as well as baked items. The church is at 316 Peachtree Parkway North, Peachtree City. For information, call 770-487-0426.

Thanksgiving baskets donated

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Youth Ministry prepared 10 Thanksgiving baskets for The Real Life Center in Peachtree City. Each basket was designated for a specific family. Gift cards were included so each family could purchase perishable food items. The St. Andrew’s Sunday School children made Thanksgiving wreaths for each basket. Christ Our Shepherd to present ‘Arrest These Merry Gentlemen’

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church will present “Arrest These Merry Gentlemen” this Sunday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

With touches of humor and creative license, the telling of the Christmas story is from the perspective of Bethlehem residents.

Shepherd’s Flock Singers are all in grades 1-5. Kieran Marland will play Sgt. Joe Sabbath of Bethlehem’s police department. His deputies will be portrayed by his sister, Lauren, and Emily McDowell. Natalie Robichaux and Addie Ellison will take the parts of two newspaper reporters, Scoop and Cub. Christian Jubin will be the Camel Driver.

Bratcher will sign new book at Flat Creek Baptist senior event

Local author Connie Campbell Bratcher of Sharpsburg will sign her new inspirational poetry book, “Shine the Light,” at the B-Acts (senior citizens) Christmas party at Flat Creek Baptist Church in Fayetteville on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. The artist/illustrator will be there to sign as well.

FCBC presents Back to Bethlehem

Flat Creek Baptist Church will present “Back to Bethlehem,” featuring a live nativity and interactive workshops.

Children can make candles, bread, musical instruments and more.

PTC Presbyterian will host two holiday concerts Dec. 8

The First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City will host two musical performances on Sunday, Dec. 8: the Southern Crescent Chorale and the Georgia Singers.

The Christmas with the Southern Crescent Chorale will be held at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Bennett’s Mill Middle School Bellisimo Chorus will join the Southern Crescent Chorale for holiday favorites including “Silent Night,” “Do You Hear What I Hear,” “Angels We Have Heard on High” and many more including excerpts from Handel’s Messiah. The singers will be accompanied by a full orchestra.

LDS church will offer Nativity displays, musical performances

The Peachtree City Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) will present “The Festival of the Nativity,” featuring 250 Nativity sets from around the world on display, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13 and 14 from 6-9 p.m.

Special musical performances will be presented both evenings.

A special viewing for seniors will be offered Saturday, Dec. 14, from 1-3 p.m. Music and refreshments will be provided for the seniors.

Later tonight we’ll know for sure who won the runoff election to be Peachtree City’s next mayor.

Polls close today at 7 p.m. The Citizen will be at election central in downtown Fayetteville tonight, and results will be published as soon as they are available.

Voters are picking between current councilwoman Vanessa Fleisch and former mayor Harold Logsdon. Whoever wins will join newly-elected council members Mike King and Terry Ernst, newly-reelected council member Kim Learnard and holdover councilman Eric Imker.

I remember Dec. 7th, 1941

[EDITOR’S NOTE: This coming Saturday, Dec. 7, marks 72 years since naval air forces of the Japanese Empire attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii military bases early on a Sunday morning.

Japanese naval forces included four heavy aircraft carriers, two heavy cruisers, 35 submarines, two light cruisers, nine oilers, two battleships and 11 destroyers.

Over 350 Japanese planes were involved in the surprise attack. At the end of the day, over 2,400 U.S. military service members and civilians lost their lives.
