The ACA flop & the filibuster

Contrary to what a lot of the citizenry thinks, my opinion is that a lot has happened recently in the nation’s capital.

There have been charges of incompetence against the presidency for the “disastrous” roll out of the ACA. There was a slight change in the Senate’s tradition of a minority of members filibustering the activities of the majority and the executive branch. There were also other lower decibel rumblings. All are good and well, showing that our elected representatives are doing the people’s work.

Mr. Robert “Roy” Hall of Tyrone passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen D. Hall and is survived by his daughters, Connie Sparks of Port Angeles, Wash.; Donna Watson and her husband, Jerry of Tyrone; sons, Randy Hall and his wife Donna of Luttrell, Tenn.; Keith Creel of Tyrone; granddaughter, Angela Griffin and her husband, Cliff of Sharpsburg; grandsons, Thom Sparks, Steven Sparks, Ryan Hall and his wife Mary; great granddaughters, Ashley Griffin and Sarah Hall.

Kaye F. Nelson, 65, of Peachtree City, passed away November 29, 2013.

She was preceded in death by brother Owen Upshaw and father Luther Upshaw.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Harry M. Nelson; sons Michael (Tiffany) Nelson, Jr. of Fayetteville and Luke (Lindsey) Nelson of Buford; daughter Brandi Kaye (Mike) Dailey of Ola; grandchildren Clayton, Ryan, Tyler, Kanon, Colt, J. D. and Emmi Kaye; mother Ruth Carey of Pickens, MS; brothers Kenny, Eddie and Sid Upshaw and several nieces and nephews.

Katharina Schaer, 77, of Sharpsburg

Katharina Schaer, 77, of Sharpsburg, Ga. passed away on November 26, 2013 at Gentiva Hospice in Columbus, Ga.

Mrs. Schaer was born on June 10, 1936 to the late Kaspar and Maria Mollinger. In addition to her parents Mrs. Schaer was preceded in death by her husband, SSG U.S. Army (Ret) Bartlin Herman Schaer.

Memorial services for Mrs. Schaer will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Main Post Cemetery, Fort Benning, Ga. According to Striffler-Hamby 4071 Macon Road Columbus.

Gracie Dodson Amos of Peachtree City

On our Lord’s Day November 27, 2013 at 3:00 PM Gracie Dodson Amos was called by her Lord to her eternal home.

A celebration of her life was held at 11 a.m., December 2, 2013, at Sandy Ridge Methodist Church, 1620 Amostown Road, Sandy Ridge, N.C., 27046. Interment followed in the church cemetery, where she joined her beloved late husband. Mrs. Amos had resided in Peachtree City, Ga. since 2006, following the passing of her husband.

Lifting a hand to fight hunger

Patrons of the Southside Theatre Guild donated over 200 food items to the Fairburn Community Food Bank recently as part of a food drive associated with the production of Pinocchio.

Participants were asked to bring a non-perishable food item in exchange for a concession treat to help stock up the food bank during the upcoming holiday season.

Southside Theatre Guild, an all-volunteer community theatre has been entertaining audiences for the past 41 years and was happy to have this chance to along with their great patrons give back to the city of Fairburn and the surrounding community.

Holidays swing into full force this week

It’s beginning to look and feel like the Christmas season in Fayette and Coweta counties.

In Senoia, the Senoia Area Historical Museum at 6 Couch Street allows visitors to take a journey through the past.

The museum’s newest exhibit, “The Joy of Christmas Pasts,” opened Friday. The exhibit showcases over 50 Christmas cards from the first half of the last century. Come take a nostalgic trip down memory lane into the joys of Christmas past.
