Multiple wrecks are being reported countywide as icy road conditions have taken hold, causing vehicles to slide off the road, according to police radio traffic.

At 12:42 p.m. today police shut down northbound traffic on Peachtree Parkway from Walt Banks Road. Public works crews are expected to go spread sand in an effort to get the road passable for traffic.

Ramsey-McCubbin wedding

Erin Margaret Ramsey and Stephen William McCubbin were married in an outdoor ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013 by the Rev. Dr. Mark Jordan of Cokes Chapel UMC, Sharpsburg, at the Foxhall Sporting Club in Douglasville, Ga. A and reception followed the ceremony.

Erin is the daughter of Thomas and Genevieve Ramsey of Peachtree City. Erin graduated from Samford University, Birmingham, Ala. with a BA in Communications and a MS in Environmental Science. She is the Associate Director of Counseling at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian School in Sandy Springs, Ga.

Government offices closing due to snow

PTC municipal court cancelled tomorrow (Wednesday)

Other governments in Fayette County are joining the school system in closing shop early today.

Peachtree City municipal offices will close at 1 p.m. today. Municipal court tomorrow has been postponed, and defendants will get a letter notifying them of their new court date.

Non-essential Fayette County offices are closing at 2:30 p.m. and a special called meeting of the county commission planned for today at 4 p.m. has also been cancelled. The meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m.

Christian Youth Theater plans organizational meeting at PTC Presbyterian this Friday

Christian Youth Theater Atlanta, an after-school theater arts training organization, is starting a new location in Fayette County.

An organizational “Vision Night” meeting is set for Friday, Jan. 31, at Peachtree City First Presbyterian Church with separate sessions for parents and students.

Students, ages 6-18, should arrive at 6 p.m. Friday for a short training session. The parents’ session will follow at 7 p.m. to meet the leadership team, learn more about CYT in the area, then sit back and see what the students have learned in the short hour they have been with the team.

Nativity will collect food for ‘Souper Bowl’

The Episcopal Church of the Nativity will mark “Souper Bowl Sunday” at its 10 a.m. service on Feb. 2 with the in-gathering of canned goods for needy individuals and families. Nativity holds the activity every year on the same day as the annual Super Bowl game.

“While many of us once again will enjoy seeing the action on TV on a cold Sunday afternoon and evening, we also don’t want to forget the many who are hungry, homeless and cold,” said the Rev. Rita Renault, rector. “Besides, setting aside this food Sunday morning will leave plenty of time to see the festivities later in the day.”

Providence UMC will host creation vs. evolution debate

The community is invited to join Soaring Eagles Home School Co-op for a rare opportunity to see the creation vs. evolution debate between Ken Ham and Bill Nye via live simulcast on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church. Doors will open at 6 p.m.with the simulcast beginning promptly at 7 p.m. Seats are first come, first served. The event is free.

Concessions will be available for purchase until 7 p.m.

The sold-out live event is being held in the Answers in Genesis Creation Museum near Cincinnati.

COS Lutheran will offer Hope Service next Monday

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City invites everyone to the next bi-monthly Hope Service on Monday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m.

Karl Dietmeyer, pilot, musician, and conductor, will speak on “The Power of Love.”

Nine years ago Dietmeyer started an experiment, projecting thoughts of love to all he met. He was amazed at the results. He has engaged a different facet of love each year since. This year’s thoughts concerns love’s power.

The Christ Our Shepherd Flute Choir will provide special music. The service will include prayers and holy communion.

The United Methodist Men at Peachtree City United Methodist Church are now taking orders for their 35th Annual Fertilizer and Pine Straw Sale.

The UMM Breakfast Sales Kick-off will be Saturday, Feb. 1 at 8 a.m. at the Windgate Campus. Delivery dates will be the first two Saturdays in March. Products are priced comparably to big box retailers in the area and the men deliver to individual yards free of charge.
