Free veterans’ dinner planned
A group of Fayette County students is hosting a free dinner for veterans and their families (up to five people per veteran) on Monday, Nov. 11 from 5:45 – 8 p.m. in the Rainbow Room at the New Hope Baptist North Campus. David Phelps, the signature voice of the Grammy-Award-winning Gaither Vocal Band will present Classic in Concert at Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church in Fayetteville on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m.
“With his seemingly endless trademark vocal range that extends more than three octaves, David is credited as one of the most spectacular voices of our time,” a spokesperson said.
The married father of four has won two Grammies and is currently nominated for 11 Dove Awards in various categories, including Song of the Year and many performance categories.

Drew Wilmesherr has been called by The Summit Church as the new youth pastor. Wilmesherr is a graduate of McIntosh High School and Middle Tennessee State and is currently in graduate school at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur.
Wilmesherr is married to Emily Shacklett Wilmesherr from Murfreesboro, Tenn.
He is a professional musician. He loves to write worship music and enjoys Frisbee golf.

“Surviving the Holidays” is a special one-session program produced by GriefShare, a Christ-centered grief support group program. It will be held on Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. at Fayette Presbyterian Church and is open to all the community.

Hoping to take the bull by the horns before it enters the china shop, the Fayette County Commission passed an ordinance Thursday that heavily restricts sexually-oriented businesses that might seek to locate in unincorporated Fayette County.
The new ordinance restricts such businesses as strip clubs, “adult” movie theaters, adult modeling studios and adult novelty stores to be located only in areas zoned for light industrial use. Doing so limits such locations to just three different areas in the county, officials said.

This year’s Veterans Day observance at Patriot Park in Fayetteville will be something special. The Nov. 9 ceremony will include the unveiling of the Fayette County Veterans Memorial which will feature monument walls listing the names of soldiers who fought in numerous wars and who were born, raised and died as residents of Fayette County.
