A rezoning off Ga. Highway 92 south near the Spalding county line was approved Thursday night by the Fayette County Commission.

The new development will consist of six lots on 217 acres, a significant cut from the 31 lots it had previously been approved for. The smallest lot is 11.34 acres but two are larger than the rest: one at 84 acres and the other at 66 acres.

The rezoning changed the district from a combined estate-residential and agriculture-residential to a straight AR zoning. The parcel is located off Ga. Highway 92 at Chapman Road.

The drive-through spectacle of Christmas lights at “The Gaddys” home on Sandy Creek Road has lit the holiday fires of thousands of local residents for some 25 years.

But on Dec. 7 a sticky-fingered Grinch briefly invaded the joy of the scene, taking cash from a March of Dimes donation box on the site to collect funds for the organization that battles birth defects.

The Grinch may not have known that the Gaddys lost two of their grandchildren and are committed to helping March of Dimes. He or she may not even care.

What ended Dec. 13 as a car chase in Peachtree City and snarled traffic began a day earlier when a 70-year-old man in southeast Coweta County stabbed his 41-year-old son. Coweta County deputies on Dec. 13 located the man in Peachtree City and disabled his vehicle when it crossed the median on Ga. Highway 74 and put oncoming drivers at risk.

A Fayette County grand jury declined to indict four people Friday on racketeering and related charges stemming from alleged fraudulent invoices submitted to the Clayton County DUI Court by one company in Tyrone and another located in College Park.

Cleveland Elementary School music teacher Dana Lamb is making her mark on the music industry. Her song “You Should Dream” is currently number 5 on the iTunes chart. Lamb was honored Monday night by the Fayette County Board of Education.

“Dana Lamb and her song ‘You Should Dream,’ recorded by the Texas Tenors and used as the title song of their latest album by the same name, was released on iTunes Dec. 10, debuting at number 5 on the album chart,” said school system spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach, who described Lamb as a teacher who dared to dream.

Local residents can get a behind-the-scenes look on a global manufacturing firm located in Peachtree City starting Thursday on the Science Channel.

Sigvaris, which makes compression socks and hosiery, will be featured on the show “How It’s Made” Thursday at 9:30 p.m., Friday at 12:30 a.m., Saturday at 4:30 a.m. and Thursday, Dec. 26 at 10:30 p.m.

Fayetteville is home to the new Pinewood Atlanta Studios and the incremental yet steady number of new jobs it will bring. But currently at 88 percent residential build-out, the city has a limited number of residential parcels to accommodate the expected growth in its pre-annexation areas.

Information supplied by the city shows 819 available residential lots. Fayetteville’s current population stands at 16,060 and carries a population estimate of 18,189 at build-out.

A new federal budget that would stave off a potential government shutdown early next year has won the support of local Congressman Lynn Westmoreland as it passed the U.S. House of Representatives last week.

While as of press time Tuesday the bill faces an unknown outcome in the Democrat-controlled Senate, Westmoreland said last week that the bipartisan budget deal brokered between the Republican and Democratic party leaders “is a step in the right direction.”

Fayette County Board of Education member Mary Kay Bacallao has announced that she will resign her Post 2 seat in March to run for the soon-to-be open post of Georgia state school superintendent.

Bacallao made the announcement at the Dec. 6 meeting of the Ga. House Republican Caucus. The announcement came as Bacallao was participating on a panel debating the Common Core standards where, as is customary, she opposed the standards.
