Communities In Schools (CIS) of Georgia Director Neil Shorthouse recently provided the Newnan Rotary Club with information on efforts by the organization to serve at-risk students. The program is expected to be reinstated in Coweta in 2014.

Shorthouse said the CIS goal is to increase high school graduation and reduce dropout rates. Shorthouse thanked local leaders for their efforts to reinstate Coweta’s Communities in Schools program.

Peachtree City staff are slated to present a report to the City Council at its Nov. 21 meeting about how the federal Affordable Care Act, often referred to as Obamacare, will impact the city’s bottom line in the future.

Councilman Eric Imker on Nov. 7 asked for the presentation, saying the city needed to be ready to react to the changes as necessary.

“It’s a very serious issue for our citizens: how much it’s going to cost us out of our pocket that we’re going to have to add to the general fund to take care of our requirements to meet the healthcare act,” Imker said.

A rezoning that will make way for a new company and an estimated 200 “high-paying” jobs was approved earlier this month by the Peachtree City Council.

The rezoning will allow Panasonic North America to split off part of its existing 60-acre campus to make room for a supplier that will be investing upwards of $1 million to upgrade the facilities with new equipment.

It took exactly 17 seconds for the Sandy Creek Patriots to shift gears into playoff mode.

That’s how long it took Javon Jackson to return the game’s opening kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown. From there the Patriots never looked back, opening up a 42-3 lead in the second quarter en route to a 63-10 win over the Cedartown Bulldogs in the first round of the AAAA state playoffs.

Next Friday Sandy Creek will host Chestatee, who defeated Grady in its first-round game.

Christopher Ward VanOrden, 48, died suddenly Monday, November 11, 2013.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Jane VanOrden.

The youngest of five children, Chris is survived by his sisters, Amy (David) Tratt, Cathy and Linda VanOrden; brother, KC (Desiree) VanOrden; as well as former wife, Lori VanOrden and her daughter and her grandchildren.

The city of Newnan’s annual Christmas parade will is December 8, beginning at 3 p.m. The parade begins at Salbide Avenue and Greenville Streets.  It’s a “Winter Wonderland” so bring on your snow!  The parade will include floats, walking groups, decorated cars and trucks, and marching bands. 
 
This year, the city is proud to announce Newnan’s Hometown Heroes Newnan Police and Fire personnel; honoring those that serve the community every day.

There’s an old saying, “A place for everything and everything in its place.” Unfortunately for yours truly, The Wife and I, we have a much different idea of where that place should be.
In every relationship there’s one who picks up things around the house, and one who doesn’t. Guess which one I am.
In my defense, I do have a place for everything. It’s just not the same place The Wife wants it to be.
