John Holloway was a pastor to me, one of two men in my life who completely fulfilled that role. I first met him in 1995 when, after he called me on the telephone in response to an inquiry I made, we met for lunch in Griffin, Ga.

He and I shared some common ground. We had both served as United Methodist pastors, both had been influenced by the charismatic movement, were both married to strong, capable women, and both had three sons — although he would add a daughter some years later.

The Peachtree City Police Department is seeking the public’s help in finding a missing juvenile with special needs who wandered off from an office building in the Westpark area a short time after 11 a.m. today.

Zachary, 12, was last seen in the area of Ga. Highways 54 and 74. He is described as a white male, 4’5″ weighing 80 pounds, with brown eyes and dark hair. He was wearing a light blue sweatshirt, a red and white checkered shirt, tan camouflage pants and brown leather sandals.

Anyone spotting Zachary is asked to call 911 immediately.

The Fayette County Board of Education on Monday amended its charter school acceptance policy, but exempted a current petitioner from retroactive deadlines. The vote on the amendment was followed by another unanimous vote to set a May 1 deadline for Liberty Tech Charter School to submit its petition for a charter school in Fayette County.

Qualifying starts Monday for local and regional offices in the primary and general elections that will be held later this year.

Interested candidates must qualify with their respective party, not at the county’s elections office.

The Fayette County Republican Party will be open at its headquarters at 174 N. Glynn Street in Fayetteville from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. For information call 770-716-1545.

By unanimous vote, the Peachtree City Council approved sweeping changes to its ethics ordinance Feb. 20, including the replacement of a citizen ethics board with an attorney from outside the city who would sit in judgment of specific complaints as a “hearing officer.”

Under the new ordinance, that attorney must have at least five years’ experience and a law practice and residence at least more than 10 miles outside the city limits.

NAACP hails judge’s decision as ‘historic win-win’; new map creates district to ensure a minority candidate will be elected in Fayette

The switch to district voting for Fayette County Commission and Board of Education elections will prevent about 60 percent of Fayette voters from casting ballots in four local races during the May primary and the November general election.

The Fayette County Commission will vote Thursday on a recommendation to apply term limits to existing and future commissioners.

The restrictions would limit commissioners to serving no more than two consecutive four-year terms. Proposed by Commission Chairman Steve Brown, the restrictions would be made retroactive to those holding office since 2011, which would include Brown and fellow commissioner Allen McCarty.

This Friday has been designated as Phil Williams Night at Landmark Christian School, as a beloved former coach is to be honored for his years of service to the community.

Before the 7 p.m. baseball game against Chapel Hill, there will be a 6:45 ceremony honoring Williams. All former players, parents and friends from the Douglas County area as well as the Landmark Christian School community and others are invited for the celebration.

The game is an early-season matchup between two of last year’s playoff teams. Admission for students and adults is $5 each.
