Ga. Insurance Commissioner to speak at Rotary Club meeting in Senoia

The Coweta-Fayette Rotary Club will host Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens on Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Senoia Coffee and Cafe in Senoia. He will be speaking to the club and also will have a special presentation for the Coweta County Fire Department.

Hudgens was elected as Georgia’s Insurance Commissioner on November 2, 2010.

Miss Sandy Creek Pageant is this Saturday

Proceeds will benefit school’s choral department

The Sandy Creek High School Choral Department has rescheduled the 2014 Miss Sandy Creek Pageant after inclement weather forced the original pageant to be cancelled. The pageant is Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $7 on Friday, Feb. 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the SCHS cafeteria, or for $10 at the door.

Benefit for Promise Place Feb. 28 at Legacy Theatre

On Feb. 28, Promise Place is hosting its first ever Improv Comedy night titled “Promise You’ll Laugh”. The event will be held at the Legacy Theatre in Tyrone.

A professional improvisational group from Atlanta will entertain the audience with 100 percent of the proceeds directly benefitting Promise Place.

Court enacts district voting

New map with majority-minority 5th District will be used for upcoming elections

Tuesday afternoon, district voting became the law of the land in Fayette County by decree of a U.S. District Judge, replacing the county’s at-large voting format with a new process that will allow residents to vote for just one of the five members on both the Fayette County Commission and the Fayette County Board of Education.

Under at-large voting, struck down by the court, Fayette voters had the luxury of casting a ballot for all five members on each governing body.
