NY Attorney General Hires Public-Corruption Prosecutor To Target Trump Administration; WSJ Reports

Just days after the controversial dismissal of former Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara by Jeff Sessions, (see “Trump Fires US Attorney Preet Bharara After He Refuses To Quit“), New York state’s attorney general, and well known Democrat donor, Eric Schneiderman, has decided to pick up the crusade against the Trump administration where Bharara left off by announcing the hiring of his top public-corruption prosecutor, Howard Master, to focus specifically on issues involving the Trump administration.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the hiring of Master, whose title will be senior enforcement counsel, signals Schneiderman’s continued intent to take on the Republican president.  Eric Soufer, a spokesman for Schneiderman’s office, confirmed Master’s hiring and said he “will be working on a wide range of civil and criminal investigations and enforcement matters, including public corruption, complex civil litigation” and potentially litigation against the Trump administration.

Mester

Of course, for the past year or so Schneiderman has been the ringleader of a group of Democratic attorneys general who have directed both legal challenges and critical rhetoric toward the president on matters including his executive orders on immigration and refugees, climate change and threats to deport millions of illegal immigrants, among other issues.

Last week, Schneiderman’s office joined Washington state’s lawsuit against the Trump administration’s revised immigration order. “The Trump administration’s continued intent to discriminate against Muslims is clear,” Schneiderman said at the time, “and it undermines New York’s families, institutions and economy.”

Meanwhile, Scheiderman also led the charge against the now defunct Trump University that allegedly defrauded students and resulted in Trump paying a $25 million settlement.  Below was Schneiderman’s full statement on the settlement:

He is also the AG who notified Donald Trump that his charitable foundation was violating state law back in October 2016, convenient timing for such an announcement, by soliciting donations without proper certification and ordered the charity to stop its fundraising immediately…a laughable offense given the many issues surrounding the Clinton Foundation, which was also based in New York, that went unrecognized the NY AG’s office.

The undrainable swamp will not be defeated…
