Sleet, snow up to 2 inches forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday

Out of the blue, a forecast of snow for Fayette and Coweta

We’ve been watching TV pictures of snow accumulations well north of us. Now we’ll experience Old Man Winter for ourselves by mid-week, according to the National Weather Service’s Forecast Office in Peachtree City.

No official word yet on whether that means school closings Tuesday and Wednesday.

The forecast for Fayette and Coweta counties calls for a 40 percent chance of snow after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

OK to feel sorry

At one time in our nation’s history, blacks feeling sorry for whites was verboten. That was portrayed in Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird.” This is a novel published in 1960 — and later made into a movie — about Depression-era racial relations in the Deep South.

Fact-Free Liberals: Part II

Words seem to carry far more weight than facts among those liberals who argue as if rent control laws actually control rents and gun control laws actually control guns.

It does no good to point out to them that the two American cities where rent control laws have existed longest and strongest — New York and San Francisco — are also the two cities with the highest average rents.

That old house

I grew up in the Hillcrest area of Kingsport, Tenn., in the northeastern tip of the state. The home we occupied for all of my life, from the time I was 4 until I left for the Marines, was at the top of a road that used to be named Hill Street before we were annexed by the city and the name had to be changed. Seems that Kingsport already had a Hill Street.

'Plaza Suite' open for business

By Joan Doggrell

Gear up your brain and dust off your funny bone for another uproarious Neil Simon farce. “Plaza Suite,” one of Simon’s best-loved New York plays, opened at Newnan Theatre Company this week and runs through February 2.
“’Plaza Suite” has slapstick moments, romantic moments, plus a little heartbreak in the first act. If you like comedy light and funny you’ve got that. Broad and farcical, a little hint of drama to it, you’ve got that too,” said NTC’s artistic director Tony Daniel.

Toyland, Flamingo Street style

Christmas is now over and all the decorations are stowed away for another year. Now that the holidays are behind us, the next big thing visiting your home doesn’t come down the chimney in a red and white suit. It’s delivered to your mailbox in a plain envelope. That would be a big fat credit card balance. Or it could be two or even three.
