Ethel Koscierzna, 86 of Fayetteville

Ethel Koscierzna, 86 of Fayetteville, Ga., beloved and devoted wife of 561⁄2 years to Donald Koscierzna entered into rest on Monday, October 28, 2013. Born in Herrin, Ill. and a resident of Fayetteville, Ga. for 21 years.

Ethel, a retired accountant was very good at what she did. Her hobbies were reading, cooking and sewing. Most of all she loved traveling the United States.

Sara Moore Fowler, 97, of Fayetteville

Sara Moore Fowler, 97, of Fayetteville, Ga., formerly of Chamblee, Ga., passed away on Nov. 3, 2013 while a patient at Southwest Christian Care Hospice.

She was born on March 29, 1916 in Gainesville, Ga. and will be buried beside her husband of 55 years, James W. Fowler at Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville.

She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, Edward Lewis and Naomi Maddox Moore, and her four brothers and three sisters.

Sandy Creek’s SkillsUSA team chalks up more wins

The victories keep mounting for Sandy Creek High’s SkillsUSA chapter.
At the latest competitive event, the Georgia SkillsUSA Champions Rally held at the Georgia National Fair in Perry, the chapter placed in four events and earned top state recognition.

Awards include first place in Career Pathway Poster Design, third place in Chapter Recruitment Banner Design, fourth place in Chapter T-shirt Design, and fourth place in Chapter Recruitment Display.

Memorial to be unveiled in F’ville Saturday

This year’s Veterans Day observance at Patriot Park in Fayetteville will be something special. The Nov. 9 ceremony will include the unveiling of the Fayette County Veterans Memorial which will feature monument walls listing the names of soldiers who fought in numerous wars and who were born, raised and died as residents of Fayette County.
“What makes this memorial different is that each of these soldiers were born and raised and died as a resident of Fayette County,” said Fayetteville Councilman Larry Dell.

Michael C. Powell, 69, of Peachtree City

Michael C. Powell, 69, of Peachtree City, passed away November 3, 2013.

He was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army and later became a real estate appraiser for Benchmark Appraisal Group. He was an avid golfer and loved the Georgia Bulldogs.

Schools plan a variety of activities for Veterans Day

Students and staff of Fayette’s public schools will honor local veterans on Veteran’s Day, Monday, November 11, with special concerts, parades, assemblies, and performances.
All veterans, active or retired, and their families are invited to attend any of the school events that are being planned in their honor. Contact the schools for additional information about scheduled events. Many receptions are being held in conjunction with activities, so veterans are asked to let schools know that they are planning to attend.

John D. Spivey, 79, of Peachtree City

John D. Spivey, 79, a longtime resident of Peachtree City, passed away on October 30, 2013.

John was the devoted husband of Ethel (Penny) Spivey for 46 years. He was the father of John Kirby Spivey and father-in-law of Jennifer M. Spivey. John was much loved and respected by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
