Reason Foundation Senior Analyst Shikha Dalmia spoke last month at a conference organized by Arizona State University’s School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership, titled “Polarization and Civil Disagreement: Confronting America’s Civic Crisis.” The conference was keynoted by occasional Reason contributor Jonathan Rauch and included Harvard University’s Harvey Mansfield, the Washington Post‘s Megan McArdle, the American Enterprise Institute’s Naomi Schaefer Riley, and many others.
Dalmia was on a panel discussing populism and tribalism in America today. She argued that even if the left got the game of identity politics going, the ethno-nationalist identity politics of the right are ultimately far more dangerous.
Her remarks took on renewed relevance in the wake of the terrorist attack on the two New Zealand mosques by a white nationalist.
