Brian Doherty on the Libertarian Party’s Possible Banner Year

The Libertarian Party is showing signs of unusually encouraging
midterm-election results in November. This seems only natural for
an era when both independence from major party
identification and a general yen for libertarian
ideas are growing.

At least three L.P. candidates for federal or statewide
office are also polling unusually strongly for Libertarians,
handily beating the gap between their major party opponents. North
Carolina Senate candidate Sean Haugh, Kentucky Senate candidate
David Patterson, and Florida gubernatorial candidate Adrian Wyllie
talk of the pleasures and pains for running Libertarian in a year
when they all agree awareness and acceptance of the label are
higher than they’ve ever seen.
