We were in seminary in Fort Worth when my second daughter, Rachel, was born. About the time my wife had to take a leave of absence from her RN position, the paper route in the seminary village became open. So I became a newspaper carrier for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram for about nine months. Every day at 4 a.m. and 4 p.m. I threw the paper. I loved Saturday when the morning and evening editions combined. I dreaded Sundays because the paper weighed a ton. Since it was a walking route, I was loaded down.

Robert and Beverly Argumosa of Peachtree City, Ga. are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Ms. Kelsey Argumosa, to Mr. Michael Roach, son of Toni Roach and Roger Roach of Newnan, Ga.

Kelsey is the granddaughter of the late Maynard and Frances Mitties of North Bend, Neb. and the late Oscar and Anna Argumosa of Chicago, Ill.

Mike is the grandson of Pete and Mary Terranova of The Villages, Fla. and the late Donald T. Roach and Jean Roach of Sunrise, Fla.

Nativity sets Mardi Gras event
The Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Fayetteville will hold a pancake feast and and Mardi Gras celebration from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4. Both events traditionally end the church’s pre-Lenten season in preparation for the start of Lent the next day. The church is at 130 Antioch Rd, Fayetteville. For more info, call  770-460-6390.

On Ash Wednesday, March 5, The Episcopal Church of the Nativity will be offering “Ashes to Go,” a new approach to a centuries-old Christian tradition, from 7 to 9 a.m, outside Prime Financial Services at the corner of Ga. Hwy. 92 South and Antioch Road in Fayetteville.

The Episcopal Church of the Nativity is part of a new nationwide movement that has clergy and lay people visiting transit stops, street corners, coffee shops, and college campuses to mark the foreheads of interested passers-by with ashes and invite them to repent of past wrongdoing and seek forgiveness and renewal.

Providence United Methodist Church invites members of the community to dust off that bike, grab their leathers and take a ride with Providence Senior Pastor Diane Parrish and her husband, Ray.

On Sunday, March 2, Providence will host a special “Biker Sunday,” when bikers in the community are invited to come to church then ride with the Providence group.

Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City will host a Trinity Trail Run on March 1.

All 5K and 2K participants will receive a t-shirt and complimentary breakfast of pancakes and tamales.

The top three male/female winners of each age group in the 5K will receive awards.

Proceeds from the race will benefit teens who will work this summer for Catholic Heart Work Camp and Amigos for Christ, two organizations dedicated to the revitalization of communities throughout the United States and Nicaragua.

Registration is $30.

The women of First Presbyterian Church of Peachtree City joined with the women of Newnan Presbyterian Church for an afternoon of wine and food pairing. The event was coordinated by First Presbyterian of PTC chef Pat Hawthorne. Approximately 30 women, including the Rev. Morgan Morse Hay, joined in the fun and the food as they learned about how the dishes were prepared and received the recipes to take home. Featured items include handmade Tiropita (cheese filo triangles) for $10 per dozen, Spanakopita (spinach, onion, cheese filo triangles) also $10 per dozen, Tsoureki (braided Easter bread) for $10 per loaf, and Koulouria (twisted cookies with or without sesame) for $8 per dozen.

All proceeds benefit St Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Philoptochos Society’s local and national charities. (Philoptochos means “Friends of the Poor.”)
