Donald Trump is going after Hillary Clinton for her support of NAFTA and other trade deals her husband pushed as president, even claiming that they are tantamount to the rape of America. If that’s the case, then the GOP is the Party of Rape given that without its help, Bill Clinton would never have been able to get NAFTA through. Hillary’s role in all of it was minimal and Democrats have always been protectionists barring the brief free trade foray by Bill.
So the choice before the GOP is to either repudiate Trump’s anti-trade rhetoric or accept its culpability in “raping” America, notes Reason Foundation Senior Analyst Shikha Dalmia. Is there any doubt about what it should do?
