There are many gawd awful things about the GOP’s effort to repeal-and-replace Obamacare effort which is really turning into a fund-and-entrench Obamacare effort. However, the Medicaid reform component is not among them. In fact, it’s a serious stab (pardon the metaphor!) at curbing the program’s runaway inflation while improving care by giving states the flexibility to craft plans that give patients more control over health care dollars.
However, liberals are having none of it. They are screaming that these reforms will do nothing short of leading to mass deaths. But Reason Foundation Senior Analyst Shikha Dalmia argues that if anything will lead to that outcome, it’s leaving the program as is. Indeed, various studies have shown that Medicaid patients have worse health care outcomes not just compared to privately insured people but arguably even the uninsured.
