Comey: Imagine A “Retribution Presidency” Where The President Ordered The “Investigation And Prosecution” Of His Enemies

Comey: Imagine A “Retribution Presidency” Where The President Ordered The “Investigation And Prosecution” Of His Enemies

Authored by Chris Menahan via InformationLiberation.com,

Imagine if you will a “retribution presidency” in which the President of the United States ordered “the investigation and prosecution of individuals who he sees as enemies.”

You may think that describes Joe Biden’s presidency to a T — locking up J6ers en masse, ordering the FBI to target the regime’s political opposition, having the DOJ work to jail former president Donald Trump — but it’s actually former FBI director James Comey’s vision of a second Trump term.

“Think about what four years of a retribution presidency might look like,” Comey told MSNBC’s Jen Psaki on Sunday.

“He could order the investigation and prosecution of individuals who he sees as enemies.”

Translation: ‘If Trump is elected he might weaponize the justice system against us just as we weaponized it against him.’

I wish I could imagine it but Trump did nothing like this during his first term — he let Hillary Clinton off the hook despite campaigning on “Lock Her Up” and even kept Comey on as FBI Director. One would hope Trump learned his lesson but who knows.

That said, I don’t have to imagine Biden locking up and intimidating his political enemies because he’s already doing it.

If Trump is going to take retribution on these criminals I might actually have to vote for him!

The Three Rs: Reading, Writing, And Reparations?

The Three Rs: Reading, Writing, And Reparations?

Authored by Jonathan Turley,

The 1619 Project Education Network, in conjunction with the Pulitzer Center, have released a new curriculum for high school students that will convert some math classes into a discussion of reparations and racial justice.  Students will be asked to work out the math on the payment for past years of slavery and racial discrimination. A 2020 report found that prior 1619 Project curriculum proposals have been adopted in over 3,500 classrooms across all 50 states.

The program, “Reparations Math and Reparations History,” is designed to have “students apply math skills, research into historical wealth gaps in the U.S., and an analysis of different reparations models to an investigation into whether or not reparations should be paid to the descendants of enslaved people in the U.S..”

The 1619 Project has long been controversial due to questions over its historical accuracy, including opposition by some history teachers. The project is most associated with former New York Times writer and now Howard University Professor Nikole Hannah-Smith.  Hannah-Smith has declared that “all journalism is activism.”

As previously discussed, the objections to the 1619 Project concerned some of its sweeping historical claims over slavery being a motivation for the American Revolution and labeling figures like Abraham Lincoln as racists.

According to The Atlantic, Princeton historian Sean Wilentz criticized that work and some of Hannah-Jones’s other work in a letter signed by scholars James McPherson, Gordon Wood, Victoria Bynum, and James Oakes. They raised “matters of verifiable fact” that “cannot be described as interpretation or ‘framing.’” They objected that the work represented “a displacement of historical understanding by ideology.” The Atlantic noted that “given the stature of the historians involved, the letter is a serious challenge to the credibility of the 1619 Project, which has drawn its share not just of admirers but also critics.” Researchers claimed the New York Times ignored them in raising the errors. The New York Times was criticized later for a “clarification” that undermined a main premise of her writing. None of that appeared to concern the Pulitzer Committee.

Under the new program, students would have to do the reparations math over the course of three to four school weeks. Teachers would prompt students to “evaluate whether they think reparations should be paid to descendents of enslaved people.”

This is not the first effort to redesign math curriculum with antiracist themes. Academics at schools like Vanderbilt have denounced math as “racist.”  We previously discussed the view of University of Rhode Island professor (and Director of Graduate Studies of History) Erik Loomis that “Science, statistics, and technology are all inherently racist.” Others have agreed with that view, including denouncing math as racist or a “tool of whiteness.” There are also calls for the “decolonization” of math as a field.

Others have called for “decolonizing” math and, at schools like Bates College, professors proposed redesigning math courses to focus on the concepts of “colonialism and privilege.”

The introduction of a reparations-focused math curriculum comes at a time when many are pushing for payments of as much as $5 million per eligible resident in states like California.

This month, a Biden appointee and law professor called upon the United Nations to act to secure reparations for black Americans and to end “the continuation of slavery” through mass incarceration in the United States. Howard Law Professor Justin Hansford is the only American representative on the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent.

Recently, Democrats introduced a bill demanding $14 trillion in reparations.

As task forces in states like California have issued recommendations for payments, the demands are presenting a challenge for Democratic politicians who have long campaigned on such payments as a moral imperative. That bill has now come due but politicians like California Gov. Gavin Newsom have sought to pivot away from demands from his own Reparations Task Force for massive payments.

Trust in our public schools has fallen to record lows with a major exodus out of public education. This is due in part to the view that teachers and administrators now put political and social agendas ahead of traditional educational priorities — even as scores continue to fall in many districts.  With some declaring that teaching is “a political act,” parents are increasingly taking their kids to schools with a focus on core subjects and skills.

The Pulitzer/1619 proposals may soon bring the issue to classrooms across the country.

The curriculum asks “should  reparations  be paid for the United  States’ use  of enslaved labor?”  However, the guidelines declare that students would be assessed based on their presentations that seem to assume that reparations should be made:

“A project-based learning rubric will be used to evaluate final presentations created by  students to share their research into the lasting impacts of slavery on the wealth gap for African Americans, and their cases for reparations to descendents of enslaved Africans and African Americans. Their presentations should also share what math function the U.S. should use to determine and provide monetary preparations.”

That “assessment” will likely strike many parents as suggesting more indoctrination than education on the issue.

What is interesting is that Pulitzer/1619 Project designers cite a proposed bill as the basis for the new curriculum. H.R. 40 is the proposal of Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D., Tx).

The bill has failed to pass in Congress, but would be the basis for the new curriculum. Lee recently said “H.R. 40 is 38 years on the books waiting for someone to say yes.” She is now calling on President Biden to use executive authority to unilaterally order the creation of the commission.

George Santos’s Bail Guarantors Must Be Disclosed—but the Order so Holding Is Sealed Pending Appeal

From Magistrate Judge Anne Shields (E.D.N.Y.) today, in U.S. v. Santos:

For the reasons contained in the attached Order, the motions to unseal the identities of the Suretors who signed the Bond for Defendant’s pretrial release, filed herein at Docket Entries 13 and 14, are granted. To allow Defendant to appeal this ruling to the District Court, the Clerk of the Court is directed to maintain the attached decision and all previously sealed documents, including the Bond, under seal. Any appeal of this Order must be filed by noon on Friday, June 9, 2023.

Here’s more on the backstory, from a post of mine on the subject when the motion to unseal was filed:

[Here’s an excerpt from] the New York Times’ letter motion requesting access to this information …:

The surety records play a significant role in this Court’s exercise of its Article III power. The Second Circuit, among other federal appellate courts, has held that the public has a common law right of access to bail hearings. [See, e.g.,] Associated Press v. U.S. Dist. Court for Cent. Dist. of California (9th Cir. 1983) (holding that “pretrial documents, such as those dealing with the question whether [the defendant] should be incarcerated prior to trial … are often important to a full understanding of the way in which the judicial process and the government as a whole are functioning”); United States v. Chagra (5th Cir. 1983) (“Pretrial release proceedings require decisions that attract significant public interest, and invite legitimate and healthy public scrutiny.”).

The public interest in openness is particularly strong in this case. The surety records relate to three individuals who have committed large sums of money to ensure that Rep. Santos can remain at liberty, pending further proceedings. This presents an obvious opportunity for political influence, given Rep. Santos’s elected position and his dependence on these suretors. {If the suretors are not family members, the surety also may be contrary to Congressional ethics rules. See generally House Ethics Manual (2008).} That risk is further heightened by the fact that the very crimes Rep. Santos has been charged with involve abusing the political process for personal gain.

The public also has an interest in ensuring that Rep. Santos duly appears in court and, thus, an interest in exercising democratic oversight of the effectiveness of the bond. For the bond to be effective, first, the suretors must be individuals with sufficient influence or connection to Rep. Santos that forfeiture of their security would deter him from flight. Second, the amount of the forfeiture must be sufficient that the impact on the suretor would similarly deter flight. And, at the same time, the suretors would need to be free from circumstances that would undermine bail’s intended purpose. For example, a suretor who owed sums of money to Rep. Santos potentially would not be appropriate….

New Poll Finds Half Of Major Corporations Plan To Cut Office Space As CRE Turmoil Rages On

New Poll Finds Half Of Major Corporations Plan To Cut Office Space As CRE Turmoil Rages On

A few weeks ago, Goldman revealed the “most accurate” reading of the current commercial real estate market, pointing to a 25% plunge in office property values. Adding more to this nightmarish outlook is a new Knight Frank poll showing that major corporations expect to reduce global office space footprints over the next several years.

Bloomberg said the poll of 350 real estate leaders at international firms found half of the largest companies with total workforces of over 50,000 employees are expected to cut their office space footprints by 10% to 20% within three years.

“Now that we are in a truly post-pandemic world, corporate decision-makers are ‘removing the blinkers’ and making clear decisions around their future corporate real estate strategy based on a broader array of business issues than just the pandemic,” Knight Frank global head of occupier research Lee Elliott said

The poll signifies continued downward pressure on office spaces and high vacancies at a time refinancing for the CRE space is more challenging, which could lead to a significant downdraft in property prices.

We have already laid out to readers major liberal cities have an office space vacancy crisis:

… and then there’s this:

Already, CRE prices have tumbled into a downturn as property values are sliding for the first time since 2011.

As for Goldman’s “most accurate portrayal of current market conditions,” their analysts are looking at Green Street data that foretells the coming price plunge in office and apartment property values.

And remember, as regional banks began imploding in March, we noted, “CRE Nuke Goes Off With Small Banks Accounting For 70% Of Commercial Real Estate Loans.”

Owners of office buildings need to quickly consider transitioning their buildings to multi-family units as post-Covid work trends shake up the CRE market.

El Salvador Unleashes “Volcano Energy” With 241 Megawatt Planned Bitcoin Mining Operation

El Salvador Unleashes “Volcano Energy” With 241 Megawatt Planned Bitcoin Mining Operation

Authored by ‘BTCCasey’ via BitcoinMagazine.com,

The country of El Salvador is harnessing its energy resources and constructing a renewable power generation park to fuel the growth of Bitcoin mining…

The country of El Salvador is tapping into its abundant natural resources to create “Volcano Energy.” According to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine, the aim is to position the country as a major global player in the Bitcoin mining industry while promoting energy competitiveness, diversification and geographic expansion for the Bitcoin network. Adopting a debt-free approach, El Salvador plans to construct a 241 megawatt (MW) renewable power generation park in the Metapán region, combining solar and wind projects.

“This project is a transformative journey that will establish one of the world’s largest Bitcoin mining farms,” the release said.

“Located in the El Shiste hamlet, within the municipality of Metapán, Santa Ana, this chosen site boasts exceptional solar and wind energy yields in the country.”

The park will have a capacity of 169MW of photovoltaic solar energy and 72MW of wind energy. The initial computational power is expected to surpass 1.3 EH/s, marking a significant milestone for the country and industry.

The release stated that “The total commitment for the project is $1 billion, beginning with a first investment of $250 million, bootstrapped by key Bitcoin industry leaders, with collaboration from top developers and manufacturers of renewable energy technology, as well as Bitcoin mining experts on a global scale.”

The government of El Salvador will play a crucial role in the planning and execution of the initiative, securing a preferred participation equivalent to 23% of the revenue. The remaining ownership will be divided among investors and reinvested in expanding energy production capacity and advancing Bitcoin mining.

Robert Warren of Distributed Hash explained on Twitter that the reasoning behind leveraging wind and solar is likely to monetize quicker to build upon a base set of geothermal expansion.

By leveraging Volcano Energy, El Salvador aims to create a prosperous future driven by sustainable energy and Bitcoin. As the country’s investment progresses volcanoes could serve as the backbone of this transformation, fostering economic growth and prosperity for future generations. The establishment of the renewable power generation park signifies a large step towards achieving these goals while cementing El Salvador’s position in the global Bitcoin mining industry.

‘Arctic Silk Road’ Comes Alive As Russia Sends First LNG Tanker To Asia This Year

‘Arctic Silk Road’ Comes Alive As Russia Sends First LNG Tanker To Asia This Year

This year, Russia shipped its first liquefied natural gas cargo via the Northern Sea Route (NSR) in the Arctic onboard the vessel Fedor Litke. The tanker was loaded at the Yamal LNG plant in the country’s north.

Bloomberg ship-tracking data shows Fedor Litke was loaded on June 3 and is en route in the first observed voyage to Asia this year.

Western energy sanctions have pushed Russia to sail tankers east through the Arctic Circle toward China — a shipping lane dubbed the ‘Arctic Silk Road.’ This route is reshaping global energy flows as it now takes half the time for a tanker from Russia to arrive in Asia instead of taking the conventional route through the Suez Canal.

Even before the war in Ukraine and the resulting sanctions on Moscow, trade flows were already in the beginning stages of shifting toward the NSR.

In 2017, we noted, “transit routes through the Arctic will assume a certain level of importance vis-à-vis the global geopolitics of Russia and China.”

Visual Capitalist Nicholas LePan published a map of all the critical routes and resources in the Arctic in 2019.

In early 2020, we detailed how Russia, owner of the world’s largest fleet of icebreakers, can plow through Arctic waters, clearing the way for vessels to traverse the northern routes.

And we recently cited Minister of National Resources and Environment Dmitry Kobylkin, who said cargo shipping in Russia’s northernmost territorial waters would top 80MM tons as early as 2024

Global trade flows are shifting as a multi-polar world emerges. Western sanctions have so far failed to cripple Moscow as energy flows are being rerouted from Europe to now Asia.

We suspect this won’t be the last tanker to sail the NSR.

“Infuriating”: College Tuition Made Free For Illegal Immigrants In Minnesota

“Infuriating”: College Tuition Made Free For Illegal Immigrants In Minnesota

Authored by Naveen Anthrapully via The Epoch Times,

Minnesota has approved legislation that would allow illegal immigrants to benefit from the state’s education aid program offering to make tuition 100 percent free in higher education.

HF 2073 is a bill related to higher education, which includes the North Star Promise tuition fee program. North Star Promise allows eligible students in the state, including illegal immigrants, to be eligible for 100 percent free college tuition, provided their family adjusted gross income is less than $80,000. The tuition fee is applicable for enrollees in a two- or four-year program within the University of Minnesota or the Minnesota state systems.

The bill passed both the state House and Senate, with Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat, approving the program on May 24. The legislature’s Democratic majority had voted in support of the bill.

Applicants should have graduated from a Minnesota high school or must have lived within the state for at least a year without getting enrolled in college for six months. They also should have applied for Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or state aid.

North Star Promise will begin in the 2024–25 academic year. It will cost roughly $117 million in the fiscal year beginning July 1, following which it is estimated to cost around $49.5 million every year. The program will only cover tuition costs left after deducting state and federal grants as well as institutional scholarships.

“INFURIATING: While middle-class students who were born in the U.S. or came here legally have to pay their own tuition, illegal aliens in Minnesota get free tuition,” @amuse, the author of Politique Republic substack, stated in a tweet on June 3.

Support and Criticism of North Star Promise

Democrats insist that HF 2073 would boost enrollment at universities.

“We’ve been seeing declining enrollment on all campuses,” said Senate Higher Education committee chair Omar Fateh, a Democrat, according to the Associated Press.

“If we don’t do something quick, we’re at risk of shutting down some campuses … I see this bill as an enrollment driver.”

Fateh insisted that the bill will provide opportunities for all Minnesotans, regardless of their background or documentation status.

However, some Republicans have criticized the program, pointing out that the $80,000 limit is unfair to students whose parents may be working multiple jobs but could still use financial aid.

Representative Marion O’Neill, the only Republican on the Senate Higher Education Committee, said that she was “completely frozen out of all discussions.”

The Minnesota legislature passed HF 2073 just days after the expiration of Title 42, a Trump-era policy that was used by the government to turn away illegal migrants following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Administering the Program

It is unclear how many undocumented students will qualify for the North Star Promise. Neither the Department of Higher Education nor Fateh gave an estimate when contacted by Axios.

According to the department, around 600 people had applied for the Minnesota Dream Act for the 2021–22 period. A little more than 300 individuals received state grants, with the average grant totaling $2,400 for the fall term. Under the Minnesota Dream Act, qualifying students become eligible for state financial aid and in-state tuition rates.

Students who submit an application for the Minnesota Dream Act or a FAFSA for the 2024–25 school year will automatically be considered for the North Star Promise free tuition program. Eligible students will be notified about the financial aid package, a spokesperson from the department told the outlet.

California also has a similar education aid program that can benefit illegal immigrants. According to a March 2023 report from the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC), “More than half of California’s undocumented students in postsecondary education (53 percent) do not fill out a California Dream Act Application (CADAA), the counterpart to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is used to determine financial aid eligibility and administer state aid for undocumented students.”

Per the 2021–22 data, only 30 percent of undocumented students in postsecondary education who fill out a CADAA ultimately enroll and receive state financial aid.

“And overall, only 14 percent of California’s estimated undocumented student population in postsecondary education receives financial aid to support their higher education goals,” the report said.

FBI ‘Afraid’ Biden Whistleblower Will Get Whacked If Unmasked

FBI ‘Afraid’ Biden Whistleblower Will Get Whacked If Unmasked

The FBI is reportedly ‘afraid’ that the informant who came forward with information regarding a Biden family bribery scheme could be “killed if unmasked.

“Just left meeting for House Oversight. The FBI is afraid their informant will be killed if unmasked, based on the info he has brought forward about the Biden family,” tweeted Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) Monday evening.

On Sunday, Luna told “Sunday Morning Futures” host Maria Bartiromo; “You know, over the last couple of months, House Oversight as well as the staff that helps us run the investigations has proven that we’ve actually been able to provide evidence. You know, before there were speculation on the Ponzi scheme for influence peddling and also the personal enrichment of the Biden family. And now what we’re finding is that these are no longer allegations and we’re creating a hard case.

“In my opinion, Maria, what we’re seeing right now, if this is true, which I do believe that it is true, in regards to Joe Biden receiving briberies and Hunter Biden, I do believe that this is grounds for impeachment. And so it’s important that we continue to move forward to bring this to the American people, but also to that we I think, do a housecleaning within our DOJ because as you had stated earlier, they are protecting this family, the FBI is protecting the Hunter Biden family, and it’s not okay,” she continued (via the Post Millennial).

Luna also noted on Monday that the House Oversight committee will initiate contempt of Congress proceedings for FBI Director Christopher Wray on Thursday, following an announcement by Committee Chairman James Comer.

“Today, FBI officials confirmed that the unclassified FBI-generated record has not been disproven and is currently being used in an ongoing investigation,” he said, adding “The confidential human source who provided information about then-Vice President Biden being involved in a criminal bribery scheme is a trusted, highly credible informant who has been used by the FBI for over 10 years and has been paid over six figures.

“Given the severity and complexity of the allegations contained within this record, Congress must investigate further. Americans have lost trust in the FBI’s ability to enforce the law impartially and demand answers, transparency, and accountability.

Now to see if this actually goes anywhere.

National humiliation is just another Tuesday afternoon in America

When Sextus Julius Africanus was born in the city of Jerusalem around the year 160 AD, the Roman Empire was still near the peak of its power.

By the time Sextus was born, Antoninus Pius had ruled the empire with a steady hand for more than twenty years; his reign was peaceful and highly effective, and he left behind a strong economy and vast public treasury.

The following year in 161 AD, when Sextus was still just a baby, Marcus Aurelius became emperor and ruled wisely for nineteen years as an assiduous, diligent philosopher king.

Sextus was a young man just starting to make his way in the world when Marcus Aurelius passed away in 180 AD. And this is when things really started to unravel in Rome.

Marcus Aurelius was followed by his complete dirt bag of a son, Commodus (who was probably every bit as evil and insane as he was portrayed in the film Gladiator).

Commodus ruled brutally for twelve years until his assassination in 192 AD, after which several more emperors rose to power and were assassinated within a matter of months.

Finally Septimus Severus rose to power in 193 AD and ruled for 18 years; he nearly bankrupted the empire with his constant warfare and expansion of the state, and he heavily debased the denarius coin from 81.5% silver to 54% silver.

Septimus Severus was succeeded by his son Caracalla, whose first order of business was to murder his brother… and then further debase the currency and bankrupt the treasury.

Caracalla was assassinated after six years and succeeded by Macrinus, who himself was overthrown and executed barely a year after becoming emperor.

Macrinus was succeeded by the sexually tormented adolescent Elagabalus, who is purported to have offered half of the empire to any doctor who could turn him into a woman.

Elagabalus was slain after four years in power, then succeeded by his cousin Severus Alexander. His 13-year reign was marked by a massive border crisis and further debasement of the currency; but most notably, during the reign of Severus Alexander, his imperial troops began running wild outside of the law and began indiscriminately assassinating anyone they wanted.

By the time Severus Alexander himself was assassinated in 235 AD, the young baby boy I told you about in the beginning of this letter– Sextus Julius Africanus– was 75 years old.

Sextus was born at the end of the Roman Empire’s period of dominance. And throughout the course of his life, he witnessed and lived through Rome’s gradual– then sudden– decline.

As a child and young adult, Sextus lived in a Rome that was powerful and unparalleled, and he enjoyed an incredible era of peace and prosperity.

By the time he entered adulthood, the cracks were already visible. Inflation grew rampant. The economy began stagnating. Multiple pandemics had taken place. The barbarians started flooding across the border. The treasury was depleted. And the imperial government became completely dysfunctional, incapable of even basic administration or responsibility.

Sextus Julius Africanus experienced all of this decline first hand. It must have been exasperating. And frankly, many of us today can probably empathize.

When I started Sovereign Man back in 2009, I had a very clear thesis in mind: the United States (along with the West in general) is in decline.

Back then that was a controversial statement to make. Today it’s painfully obvious.

What’s more, the decline seems to be accelerating, conforming to the mathematic model of logarithmic decay; it’s similar to how Hemingway described going bankrupt in The Sun Also Rises: “gradually, then suddenly.”

And we can see it just about everywhere.

From a fiscal perspective, the US is a complete train wreck. The national debt is about to pass $32 trillion as I write this, equivalent to roughly 122% of GDP– a record high.

On top of that, though, the government continues to overspend by trillions of dollars each year, making the debt problem even worse. And Social Security’s trust funds are set to run out of money within ten years.

The currency is also in the dumps. The Federal Reserve debased the US dollar as heavily as the Romans debased their own currency, causing rampant inflation.

Plus, between the Fed’s incompetence and the US government’s irresponsible spending, the dollar is on the verge of losing its status as the world’s dominant reserve currency.

Socially we can see the country coming apart as well. Socialism is on the rise. Cancel culture and censorship reign. Sociopolitical divisions are high.

The education system is crumbling… and the teachers’ unions couldn’t possibly care less. Homeless and crime rates are appalling. Public trust levels are at record lows.

Many politicians at the highest levels are either stupid, incompetent, corrupt, dangerously narcissistic, medically unfit, or all of the above. And the most recent debt ceiling fiasco shows their ineptitude to even be able to negotiate a timely solution among themselves.

Throughout all of this chaos, tensions with Russia, China, and Iran are on the rise… while the US military is being weakened by woke politics, fiscal mismanagement, and terrible leadership.

It seems like every few days there’s another major embarrassment… from a guy who never met a staircase he can’t fall up, to the humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan, to a major crisis in the US banking system, to ‘mostly peaceful’ protests, to the debt ceiling soap opera.

And every one of these emboldens America’s adversaries.

Many of us are old enough to remember a time when such things were unthinkable, when America’s reputation for strength was unquestionable.

But these days, a major, national humiliation is just another Tuesday afternoon in the Land of the Free.

It’s exasperating. And Sextus Julius Africanus probably felt the same way, shaking his head in disbelief as he lived through the decline.

To be clear, even despite America’s gargantuan challenges, it is still possible to solve these problems and navigate out of this mess. And the basic ideas are quite simple: Capitalism. Productivity. Fiscal restraint. Self-reliance.

But the people in charge don’t seem to have a clue what they’re doing. And this is why it makes so much sense to have a Plan B.
