Shikha Dalmia on Why It’s Not Over for Big Labor Just Yet

Scott WalkerScott Walker’s victory shows that Big Labor’s
bark is much worse than its bite. It had a bull’s eye on Walker
ever since he went after the collective bargaining privileges of
public employee unions and forced contribute more toward their
benefits just like other mere mortals in the private sector.

His victory, many believe, will trigger an onslaught to similar
reforms in other Republican states as their governors reckon that
they can take on the unions and live to tell the tale.

But the fact of the matter is that Walker was a unique man in
unique circumstances when the economy was tanking. Trying to pull
off what he did when the economy won’t be easy.

So, for now, unions are safe.

In the long run, however, it’s another story.
