An unidentified person rammed the front gate of the US embassy in Seoul on Thursday and was promptly arrested.
The UK’s Mirror reported that the silver Toyota Sedan used in the incident was driven by a man who said he was seeking asylum in the US, with reports adding that he was a North Korean civil servant. The man reportedly said he drove into the embassy because he has “stories related to North Korea”.
A photo posted by Reuters correspondent Josh Smith shows a silver Toyota sedan with damage to the front after hitting the gate.
According to RT, the man reportedly said “help me” several times after getting out of the vehicle. According to witnesses cited by Sputnik, the driver was a 48-year-old man by the name of Yun. Police have reportedly stated that his blood alcohol level showed no signs of intoxication.
The driver reportedly claimed to be seeking asylum because of an “embarrassment” with North Korea.
One woman was taken to the hospital for treatment after the incident, but she was the only person injured.
