“Interpreters have become a very big target of the Taliban and
Al Queda,” says Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.). “There’s been a lot
of beheadings of people that have worked with the West.”
For the past 13 years of war, the American military has
relied on Afghan nationals to serve as interpreters. These are
essential jobs but also very dangerous ones; they are labeled as
traitors by the Taliban and live in constant fear for their lives.
As more American bases close and troops are called home,
interpreters are left to fend off the Taliban
alone.
