According to media
reports, Bloomberg News canceled a year-long investigation into
ties between Chinese government officials and a billionaire.
Editor-in-Chief Matthew Winkler allegedly said canceling the story
would keep
Bloomberg from being expelled from China. Bloomberg officials
deny the story, but if they were hoping to keep the Chinese
government happy, they failed. Authorities conducted surprise
inspections of Bloomberg bureaus in Beijing and Shanghai, where at
least one inspector told staff Winkler should apologize for his
remarks.
