Apple managed to release the AirPods Max as one of its biggest hardware additions of 2020, right before Christmas. The timing was perfect, considering millions of folks in North America have been upgrading their electronics this year to adapt to the work-at-home lifestyle.

For some, who ordered the new headphones, they saw their orders receive a “hazardous materials” label from UPS, only to note the package was returned to the sender, according to Apple Insider

There have been numerous reports from customers in Canada and the US about their AirPods Max shipments halted halfway through delivery.

“A hazardous materials irregularity occurred with this package,” the UPS shipping notification read to multiple Apple customers in Canada. “We’ll contact sender with additional information. The package will be returned to sender.”

Apple Insider said neither Apple nor UPS would comment on the shipping issue.

Website iPhone in Canada quoted one person based in Calgary who said:

“Not sure if you’ve heard anybody else in Canada have this happen to them. I purchased a pair of AirPods Max the day they came out, Apple shipped them via UPS, and now halfway through shipping, UPS are returning them to Apple, because they contain (and this is UPS’s words) “hazardous materials.”

iPhone in Canada said the “hazardous materials” label could be due to the “lack of battery labeling on the package, or something to do with a battery.”
