“Panic And Panic” – Nearly 100 Injured After Passenger Train Derails In Egypt

Egypt has been on a streak of bad luck. First, the Ever Given containership ran aground on March 23 in the Suez canal, then days later, two trains collided north of the Egyptian city of Sohag, and now a deadly train derailment in the country.

On Sunday, multiple news outlets confirm a deadly train derailment in Egypt’s Qalioubia province north of Cairo.

Reuters reports at least 50 ambulances were dispatched to the incident area, and the injured were transported to three regional hospitals.

The number of injured and dead is conflicting between news outlets, but a statement from the health ministry said roughly 100 people were injured when a passenger train derailed.

Twitter is full of videos of the accident scene.

“Panic and panic at the first moments of a train capsizing near the Tookh station in Qalyubia,” said Twitter account AJA_Egypt.

Last month, 20 people were killed, and 200 were injured after two trains collided north of the Egyptian city of Sohag.

This story is still developing…
